Wind Farm Services

THG Geophysics has been geophysically testing proposed and constructed wind farms and their tower sites for over 10 years. During this time we have focused on providing soil dynamic properties quickly and inexpensively. The services include collection of s- and p-wave velocity for calculating Poisson’s Ratio or other modulii; measuring soil resistivity for grounding purposes; and testing for weak soil, voids or Karst conditions. THG has completed these studies on over 125 wind farms from Mexico to Canada.

One advantage to using us is our extensive experience with performing geophysical studies. For example, at a recent wind farm site, Karst topography was noted and reported to the client for real time micro-siting for the impacted towers. At another wind farm site, shear-wave testing was performed before drilling and thus micro-siting of towers that failed the design basis were moved before drilling thus saving the client in geotech costs.
